Hell of a week!!!
tis week went well though it was realli
bz ... more bz days ahead I
tis will be a long post ... I wanted to
type sth frm Andrew Matthews
book titled "Making Friends"
... the book is more den tt
I don realli know whether
I have finished the book ... becuz
I din read it from beginning
to end ... anyway I thot
tis piece is rather inspiring ...
n might be useful for
fellow friends who r teaching tuition
It's entitled TEDDY:
......................
The deputy principal at my pri. sch was a man named
Edward Gare. He taught seventh grade, and
strange things would happen to the children
in Teddy's class. They would start to work.
Eleven year old children would spend 4 and five hours a night
studying because they WANTED to! It was a
phenomenon.
He was not an entertaining teacher. He wasn't
a barrel of laughs and he was no
great academic. But Teddy knew how to praise kids,
he knew how to encourage us, he knew
how to care.
Teddy used to give us little merit cards for
effort, merit cards for good work, gold stars,
stamps. He took time for us. He wouldn't
just give a mark of an "A" or a "B".
He would write his own "essays"at
the bottom of our essays, telling
us where we had done well
and where we would improve.
Many of the children who spent a year with
Teddy felt real praise for the first time.
Teddy touched all of us - even
the roughest n the toughest.
Teddy's results were a continuing
affirmation of the power of praise.
He got results because he really cared - he
love those kids - and he could
always find some good somewhere.
.........................
well, I hope could be as a gud
a teacher as Teddy ... though I know
I need to put in more efforts then
what I have put in
tis week was hell of a week... I have
tuitions almost every nite, plus
one written aptitude test, one
interview, administrative
stuff with job
applications
the aptitude test was nothing ...
quite what I expected ...
as for the interview, I don
tink I stand much of a chance
wrapped up tuition for my sec
students; quite pleased
to see tt they have progressed
a lot, much more
than I expected
I still have a few more assignments to
finish before I signed off the year
... it has been quite a year
nxt year, I still donno whether
I will work full time or whether I will
teach tuition full-time ... it
all depends on my overseas university
application
so nothing has been decided ... if I
get to study in the university of my choice
... I think I will just teach tuition
full-time ... it gives me more
time, more $$$ n more freedom
to do things that I want
... while I'm still young
being young is v privilleged ... you are
allowed to mistake without
much consequences ... actualli
life is not as difficult as we think ...
I thot sometimes we just need
to believe a bit more and
smile a bit more for the gray
clouds hovering above us to clear up
Wednesday I was at Gabriel's hse
to scan my resume foto ... he offered
to scan for me when he
realised I din have a
decent scanner at home ...
tks Gabriel!!!
watched Lady Windermere's Fan
at GV Plaza Singapura on Sat ...
only Oscar Wilde's has the
wittiness to write a play
like that ... n only Oscar Wilde
has the intelligence to
write a play that is still
of great relevance tdy
at one time I have a keen interest
in Oscar Wilde ... ask me n
I can tell u a fair bit
of stuff abt him (u can
ask me about Arsene Wenger as well)
but I know nothing about politics
... Politics are dirty books to
keep in ones library
all rite i will end here ... I know this
is a bad piece ... pardon me pls!!! =)
